So I'm going to Genericon for the first time this year and figured it was the perfect opportunity to get my geek on! This will be my appropriately nerdy badge for my first ever Sci-fi convention!

I am but a mere Lieutenant JG... haha http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15889350/
Whoops, looks like I made a booboo; I knew command was red but was under the mistaken assumption she could still wear blue as a science commander, so looks like she's been demoted LOL! XP She just didn't look as good in red, haha! Guess she's a lieutenant commander now? I think that's what my hubby said Beverly Crusher actually ranked, so good enough!
I think that Crusher started out as a lieutenant commander in the very beginning of the show and was promoted to commander later, iirc. (yeah, just looked it up--she made Commander in season 7, episode 16). Three solid pips = Commander, as in Riker or Crusher. Lieutenant Commander is two solid pips and one hollow pip.
I feel like it would be possible for your character to make captain and still be in blue, if she wasn't the C.O. of the ship or base. Spock was a captain at some point but still wore blue, because he was Chief science officer, and not in command of the ship. There are also Captains serving in the Engineer Corps etc. who would still be wearing yellow. I'm sure it's pretty rare but it would happen sometimes I bet.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. X3 OK, so 3 pips = Commander? Good, at least I got that bit right then! LOL! I'm not as familiar with the pips and ranks as many others are and didn't want to upset anyone since I was starting to get people pointing out that she was in the wrong color. Red just didn't seem to fit her and since she's a scientist anyway I wanted to keep her in blue. My hubby suggested I should create a whole new color for her though since she's Boov -- purple! LOL! Considered it! She does look good in a reddish-purple! But I just didn't want to ruffle anyone's feathers. I don't think Trekkies are as aggressive as people from other fandoms can be, but I've been flamed in other fandoms before for even something as simple as saying I was looking forward to a game... Makes me a little more anxious about getting things wrong. X3
I'm aware that command in TNG is usually red, but it doesn't always have to be; Beverly Crusher and even Deanna Troi both passed the tests for command and in one episode in particular when Q is messing with Picard we see a future where Beverly Crusher is in command of a science starship and still wearing blue. /nerd too LOL It was this episode that gave me the idea that it might be OK for Fizzy to have that fourth pip. If I'm incorrect I can always fix it, but I liked the idea of giving her the option to command a ship if need be.
And thank you!
