He's doing much better, he finally decided to eat some egg for me when mixed in to his food, he also will eat cooked chicken a bit as well, though once he has eaten through the current bag of food I am getting a new formula for him because I was not happy with the initial list of ingredients listed on the back of the bag, te word corn is listed twice and shouldn't be on a ferret food ingredient list.
He is much whiter! He weighs about 2 lbs now! He's able to run now and climb the sides of his cage very well, no more of the leg dragging, he has also started being awake about 6 hours a day instea of only 2. My only thing I'v noticed is that he scratches like crazy at his skin and ears, his skin may be bothering him because he had not been bathed In so long that once washed with even mild baby wash it still made his skin upset because of how oily he was, though he won't be getting bathed more than once a month due to potential irritation I still wonder if he has extra sensitive skin, I also need to get ear cleaner and mite treatment for him that I can dab onto his ears to get them treated and cleaned a they are bothering him and look to be dirty so I am positive it's mites as he may have been outside at some point an picked them up.
Ferrets only tend to need bathing once every couple of months! Bathing them more will irritate their skin and make them produce a lot more oil in their coat. Of course, if he gets extra mucky, you can bathe him then, but try not to do it too much.
His colour being whiter is an amazing sign, it means his diet will be getting a lot better for him! A whiter coat = a healthier and happier ferret. Around 6 hours a day is normal for staying awake, so that's also a super good sign.
Ferrets also do itch a heck of a lot in general. <3 It's normal. The only thing you need to watch is if he's itching excessively enough to irritate or break the skin. It should all be a pink fleshy colour, and the best way to check is to gently blow on the fur to part it. If the skin seems mark free and of the 'normal' colour (same colour as the nose and the skin around the mouth) then there's nothing to be concerned about.
As for the ear mites, you might find it's worth putting some olive oil in his ears to smother and kill them off. Just a few drops, and you can very gently use a Q-tip or a cotton swab to clean out what you can. But he's looking so much healthier, it's wonderful!
