For the final "Throwback Thursday" of my latest 'sweeps month' (February, 2016), I have a selection of 'photo-ops' - taken by my brother Glenn - from a pier located in Pompano Beach, Florida last Saturday (2-20-16).
This particular pier goes out into the Atlantic Ocean, where local residents and tourists alike get to see lots of wildlife - in the form of both aquatic and avian creatures - while others get to do some serious fishing.
We didn't get to see any beach activity, due to 'rip currents' and a 'Portuguese man-o-war warning' that day. But we did see a lot of birds flying and/or roosting around the pier. They included seagulls, terns, sandpipers, pigeons, grackles, and (especially) pelicans.
Usually, the pelicans fly around the area, occasionally diving for fish; but once in a while, they perch on the handrails or the pier itself, usually expecting a handout from the fishermen.
Glenn took out his smartphone, and began taking pictures of some of the pelicans on the pier, starting with this lone bird, who is resting on the handrail after a lengthy flight.
