Endless Realms bestiary - Tengu
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
We made a tengu to keep our kitsune and oni company ;) I'm pretty happy with how his design turned out - I don't think I've ever given this "style" of wing-arm a go before, but it was fun!

Very cool. I do like the wing style, especially how his blades are like his feathers in shape and length, just good flow.
I'd expect a creature like this to be quite an opponent. Real life corvids are about ape-intelligent already, so I'd expect an anthro corvid to be quite smart and tricky to defeat. Again, I'd almost see this race as an exciting character to play as as much as an NPC to fight or gather intel from.

Thanks! Yeah, I liked how his blades ended up seeming like extensions of his wings, too - was struggling with his pose and then it just sort of turned out just the way I hoped :)
Yeah, corvids are crazy-intelligent and researchers don't yet understand how they're able to transmit the information they do across generations. I wonder if the tengu will end up with a higher intelligence than the kitsune?

Oh, well if that was the direction, mission accomplished! I do have to say that I really find myself preferring how you attached the wings to the arms rather than making them separate limbs attached at the shoulder blades. It looks more aesthetically pleasing and, for no justifiable reason, it seems to just make sense for the tengu. =)
