Happy Pokemon Day everyone <3 For this day I drew my original favorite Pokemon, and still my favorite Legendary Pokemon, Mew~
Before I heard about Pokemon, I watched Power Rangers from when I was like 3 to 6 years old and that was like, the extent of my interests (besides trains), but when I was 7, I distinctly remember one day in 2nd grade when it was raining out so we had to go inside to hang out before our actual first class. I overheard my old friends Nick and Kenny, I think it was, talking about Red & Blue Version and I had no clue what that was, so they told me about Pokemon and I was mystified. I dunno what came next, but it was either seeing my first episode of the anime when Pikachu gets sent to the Pokemon Center after fighting Lt. Surge's Raichu, or getting a Game Boy Color with Yellow Version for Christmas from my grandma. Not too long after that or maybe even at the same time, the TCG craze hit our school, and that just pushed my blooming obsession with Pokemon over the edge, with my first holo card being a Blastoise from Base Set that I still have.
I still play the video games and collect the cards like its my job to this day. There are just infinite instances of nostalgic moments of my life that relate to Pokemon, from listening to Backstreet Boys in the car on the way home from the mall while opening Jungle packs, to getting Silver Version and coming home at night to play it in bed and thinking I couldn't ever shut the game off because the save message added "DON'T TURN OFF THE POWER," to attending tons of Pokemon TCG tournaments with my friends Greg and Dai, to both making secret bases in Ruby & Sapphire and spending time in the Underground in Diamond & Pearl with my friends Greg, Kenny, and John; to starting X & Y together with John and his friend Garrett; the list really goes on forever.
Pokemon is honestly my favorite video game franchise and probably even my favorite brand of all time. People will continue to criticize it and ignorantly call it "only for kids" but I will always appreciate all its magic and creativity in both its past and its future~ #Pokemon20
