note for future reference, the small scale pattern though't be on the belly. Those wide lines of the belly are the scales themselves, they're called ventral, and are used to grip the land and push the snake forward with their undulating muscles and ribs. They sometimes have hex-like patterns of smaller, though still large scales at the joins between ventral scales and the normal scales of sides and back.
