At age 7, I got my first Pokemon game: Pokemon Ruby. My first Pokemon was Coco the Mudkip, who I still have in my PC today as a level 100 Swampert. I grew very attached to all my Pokemon, as I was a homeschooled kid with no friends outside of my family. I was not the best at the game, but I loved it anyways. I now had goals to strive for, and pixelated friends that seemed real to me. I didn’t feel so alone. Fast-forward a couple of years, Pokemon is still extremely important to me. I cried when I beat White 2 because I related to N’s troubles in a way, and when I had my eye surgery almost three years ago, I played Y day after day as I was healing. Today, I still love these games just as much and can’t wait for another adventure in Sun and Moon.
