But anyway,. here's alittle doodle I thought i'd try colouring,.. I think i'm slowly getting the hang of things,.. definitely learning each time I try,... anyone got any tip, tricks or advice?

You've been getting better and better at an amazing rate. Both with colour and just plain drawing. Nice!
One thing you might try sometime is to do a piece with really emphasized, dynamic lighting, just to play around with it and try things out. For instance, this same scene, but set it in the dark with say, a candle or something casting strong, harsh shadows. You can add a lot of atmosphere that way.
You're really getting the shading thing down, but you tend to be pretty timid (which I'm totally guilty of too - keep getting afraid of ruining stuff or something). Play with strong contrasts and opposites! Even try shading with complementary colours of whatever you're shading over sometime (or other non-black/gray colours - this makes it feel much more natural since true pure white and pure black pretty much don't exist on this planet). You can get some interesting organic feeling stuff that way.
