sillywerwolf took part in the Helpful Macro project with this sketch, my first commission from him, of Aram (re)building a monastery.

This might well be my first commission from Belarus! SillyWerWolf comes from a long way away, and has a hell of a lot of drawing years ahead of him. He took on the challenge of a partially constructed monastery in need of some helpful macro material transport and relocation. :)

Aram's a Monk of the Yellow Rose, y'see, and after a long time training and mastering her craft and saving Greyhawk and all that, she began her slow ascension to godhood, which granted her new powers to master. Unfortunately, everyone has to start somewhere, and Aram spent quite a while trying to master one particular new power, that of size alteration (who's surprised? Not me). While she used this power to good effect defending the valley from the constant onslaught of greedy bastards (read Aram's backstory), she was also trying to spread the 'gospel' of her way of mastery, and deeply respectful (and possibly fearful) monasteries started popping up all over the world. Aram was always there to lend a hand in its creation, or tour and bless it if it were an original work.

Aram was still not fully in control of her new powers, though, so she did .. possibly .. have .. little accidental outbursts here and there. Usually nothing tragic, but once in a while, she became a volunteer carpenter for a couple of weeks. >.> Yep, good thing monks live meek existences. I'm certain that expression on her face is not apologizing for wrecking the old place. Nope. That's .. um .. concentration. Sure, yeah, that's it! After destroying building so many monasteries ... ahem. Y'know, Aram was always terrible at bluff. >.>

The Helpful Macro project is, in a way, a tribute to Zootopia, but also a way to inspire fans, artists, and commissioners alike to envision worlds where sentient beings of radically varying sizes not only coexist, but cooperate. Macro works may often involve crushing/eating/destroying, and while that's great fun for many a macro fan, there's much more to be found in the theme than that.

This project aims to put the spotlight on alternate aspects of macro, because that is what I find most fascinating about macro art -- it inspires people to contemplate alternate perspectives beyond their own, not just artistically, but philosophically as well. That's something we all would do well to practice more often.

To celebrate the spirit of this project and the overlap with Zootopia's themes, I will be posting at least one completed commission from this project per day leading up to Zootopia's release on March 4th 2016. Keep your eyes open, and look out: macros about!

Most of my macro submissions have been friendly, non-destructive, and often helpful. I invite you to browse them, discover new artists to follow, and perhaps even commission them for some helpful macro ideas of your own. :)
