Yeah, I think so too. I actually love all the none-used species. Or well, not all but a lot. (even though my sona is a plain cat, which, really is somewhat special considering not many people have a simple cat(housecat) as their sona haha xD Mostly it's always something fancy like "super awesome special jaguar with snow leopard xD)) I tend to like these kinds of characters ^^

But less used species are sometimes really amazing, especially when drawn nicely. I love those awesomely blended species/creatures. Where everything epic looking is picked from each species to make a really awesome looking final creature. Like Spidertaurs, those look reaaalllyyy cool. xD
