Hello Mom and Dad, i hope this letter reaches you.
It's been a couple of busy months on this end with moving and settling into this new world. It feels very odd as it's not a new town on the other side of the country, nor having moved to a different country or even a entirely different continent. It's a entirely different world over here and i have gone through a fair deal of culture shock these past few months.
It's like you have seen on the news or read online. This world is so very similar as our own, to the point where you might call it identical if it where not for the people living here. Dad already knows about this but Mom? You know that group of people i told you about once, the ones that liked to dress up like animals for fun? There's a lot more to it but think of this new world like that, except that it's not costumes but real animals walking and talking like we do. I have not seen a single human around here and i have not heard anything about any human groups other then those that came through the warp gate.
On that note, i should probably talk about the trip. It was almost like going to the airport as that is what they have based everything on so there was your standard lines, passports, security checks, vendors in the waiting area, all that fun stuff along with the constant lines and little niggles that always sour a trip. I would have been annoyed but the thrill of moving to a entirely new world was keeping me so excited that i could overlook it. There was mostly humans working on this end of the gate but there where plenty of these anthros, as they are called, walking about and either traveling or working there.
I was already used to the sight after having met a few when working out the contract but it's still odd and interesting to see. Animals back home with you guys are able to signal through a few various signs but they are nowhere near as expressive as the faces you see here with these people. Going through the station was pretty cool along with trying out some of the food that they eat over there. The station was outside of a larger base with armed guards from the armed forces but i don't know which one. They kept a eye on things on our end and we got to see a bit of the base as we passed by the checkpoints.
In any case, traveling through the gate was easy enough as we where all gathered on a shuttle and just driven right through it. It was fairly big so there's plenty of traffic going through it even as we drove along with it. I would say it's around the size of a decent road, 1 lane each way. Good enough for traffic go go through but there's still a lot of traffic each way. The base was massive and they where checking so much traffic going through so there was always people hard at work there.
I know i am rambling along about all the little details, there was just so much going on that i feel was important to share. That sense of wonder as i passed through the portal and saw the new world right there before me. A world so similar but populated by anthros. Getting off the shuttle at the new station was just like going on, except everything was in reverse and animals for people being the most prominent sigh there. Going through the checkpoints had this odd feeling as i was checked and asked a few questions about my stay. I answered i was there for work but it still felt like i was getting a few odd looks.
From there it was a short buss ride to the closest large city which was only a short drive away by bus. I had everything in my bags with me and soon after came off the bus with high hopes and a lot of people staring at me and the other human passengers. Even on the bus i had gotten a few looks.
Still, i picked up a couple of papers from the new office and set off to the flat i would be sharing with my new flatmates. I know you guys are worried about me getting into a place with strange people and you would have asked me to stay with fellow humans just to be safe but i need to see and meet new people and these guys are strange to my in the physical sense but have been really friendly.
There's 4 of us, myself included. I'm living with a red panda, a raven and a dragon. I swear, i live with a dragon over here. It's so odd being here but they seem just as interested in me as i in them. The amount of species walking around is amazing, it's like a zoo over here but i don't know if i should call it that as i don't know what kind of comments would be considered rude around here. I'm going to take a closer look into it since i wouldn't want to cause trouble for the travel agency i am working for over here any trouble, not to mention just to be polite.
Once i get a few pictures made i can send them over to show some of the stuff over here. I'm pretty sure you guys can see it for yourself online with what people have already brought back but you need to see this with me in it. I swear i came across the orca who was massive, i only came up to his hips and there's rumor's some even get bigger. I would call it just rumors and most likely that's the case since that guy was already way to big, then again, they do get that big so what's to say they don't get bigger?
No need to worry though, i wont get into any trouble and i will stay in well lit areas and never walk alone after dark. I would send more direct emails and calls to make sure you hear from me but since there's no connection through the portal, i will have to settle for sending classic mail. No pictures yet as i don't have a camera and the means to develop the film so it's just lettering for the time being.
I will send another letter once i have settled in. I love you guys very much and when i find out what the mail will and will not take, i can send over some stuff from over here that you guys might like.

So i have been working on a few short stories as of late and figured i might get one of them put out here for you guys to enjoy. I am not to much of a writer so this is new grounds for me in terms of creating a story and world building. I do hope to make more so hopefully this wont be the end.
I would like to know what you guys think and i apologize in advance for the typos or the poor sentence structures.

Well. First off, sincere apology for having not noticed it when you first posted this.
Second, I read this and I found this a rather interesting read. Its in a format of someone writing a letter and it had that feel to it, a guy trying to describe things but not quite going into deep details as he had so much to talk about. I didn't spot any spelling errors, at least not any obvious ones so I think you are good there.
And I found what he wrote about to be really interesting; a portal leading to another world or dimension that is filled with anthros. And one that has them of various sizes if that Orca is anything to go. Just reaching up to his hips? I like that ;)
All in all, this was a short but enjoyable read and I hope you will write more of Edward Donovan's adventures over there, be it via more letter forms or story style written.
