This is a mandela I drew during "Creative Time" (which is something the interns get involved with on Friday afternoons at the internship site I'm currently working at). In case anyone doesn't know what a mandela is, it's Sanskrit for "circle."

In this session, we were given a word (such as "generosity" or "spirituality"), listened to some recorded music, used our imaginations to come up with an image based on the music and the word, and then draw it with oil pastels.

My word was "generosity," and when I listened to the music (I can't remember the name of the piece), it seemed to have a type of mysticism that made me think of the idea of passing hand-me-downs from one generation to the next, and there can be a special quality or "magic" in hand-me-downs that makes them seem timeless and last for ages to come, so I came up with the image of the parents (the two hands on the left) giving their "magical" gifts (which can be left up to the viewer, whether they be physical or metaphorical) to a child (the small hands on the right), hoping that the child could cherish it well and pass it on to his/her children, and this repeats indefinitely.
