Haddrik is Israash to his tribe, not so much the chief as an elder, though age has very little to do with it. He's in charge of the hunt in particular. It is his job to ensure the best hunters find the best game to feed the tribe. He chooses who will go on the hunt, he chooses where they will hunt, and he oversees the distribution of the food and skins from the hunt. He teaches those Vulgath who choose to become Gerren their basic skills, and wears a ceremonial vestment.

All members of the Vulgath paint their fur after puberty in order to identify each other by their function in the tribal mechanism. Gerran are permitted to paint their fur with orange.

Bearing a resemblance to a humanoid hybrid of Alpine Ibex and African Lion, the Vulgath are lithe, athletic, and tall in stature. Males begin growing their horns at ten and develop a new ridge with each new year of growth. If they do not break a horn in their lifetime, they can bear an impressive set by the end of their days. Females only grow horns for a short time, and have subtle ridges that can go completely unnoticed at times.
