A concept for a video game in the style of the 2D Zeldas, but split into linear levels with no overworld (think Four Swords Adventures, but with a smaller amount of swords.)
The story would be told almost entriely through dialogue, which instead of being in cutscenes, would be shown on the bottom of the screen during gameplay (using the shoulder buttons to advance or show/hide the dialogue, independent from gameplay.)
(Please note that I am never actually going to make this. It's just a fun thing to think about.)
Characters (and apparently I can't come up with names) - they have come from their respective dimensions to save a fantasy kingdom.
* On the left: is supposed to be the main character from Golden Axe Warrior (Sega Master System). After saving Altorulia, he does not feel he is ready to be its leader, and embarks on a journey to gain experience - in particular, working in a team.
* On the right: is supposed to be the main character from Crusader of Centy (Sega Genesis). He traveled back in time so he could fulfill his quest and change the future. However, this version of him is from a timeline where he was unable (or unwilling) to perform the task presented to him, thus leading to his death. He says that he is a ghost and not an angel, insisting that angels are "eternal spirits" and don't even have wings.
He can also task to animals, but somehow forgets to mention this until Level 3-2.
* In the middle: She's from Guarrior, a video game that would actually not exist (unless Guarrior 2 was popular enough to warrant a prequel.) As such, her backstory would be revealed through dialogue.
She has a happy-go-lucky spirit. She's a skilled warrior and has fought monsters for several years, which would suggest she's from a typical humans-and-monsters fantasy world... but she also wears glasses, carries a flashlight, and keeps making Batman references that the guys don't understand.
