One of the problems I run into when writing is that when I write, I try to display the big picture, and since writing is a linear medium, as opposed to drawing, it gets a bit difficult to show all the picture that I have. And, although it's not been clear yet, this story is, ultimately, about Styral Beers, even though I think a minority of chapters have mentioned him.
In any case, here is an interlude, showing a moment over in the Empire of Smilodons, as Styral's life begins to intersect with Eugene's... and starts a collision course with Daniel's.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.

No... no he he doesn't. He'll get used to it, though. Whether or not Furriston and its dezenins will get used to him is another question--in particular, a certain feline family. Lessee... You have Loren Barson, a letch, fighter, and occasional drunk, paired with his uncle Styral so that the two can bring out the wildest in each other, toss in Daniel Clydesdale as an implacable rival...
