Delorians are made of steel though, that's why they're so expensive...unless that was a 300 ton weight, the car should shrugged a good bit of that damaged not its hood off...its roof on the other hand, that'd have crunched like tinfoil.

Besides weight, there are also a good number of movement forces that should be considered.

Also, I work with steel materials at a factory every day. It is not as strong of a metal as you might think it is.
For the strength you are probably thinking it should be, the metal would have to be at least .250-inch thick, but then that makes for a pretty damn heavy vehicle and would not be fuel-efficient at all.
