They are the biological parents. About 16 years ago children started to be born with varying degrees of animal characteristics. Kai and Kaya are among the first generation of hybrids and they are full dragon hybrids. There are other hybrids in the world (somewhere around 10% of children are born as hybrids nowadays) and they'll soon meet another one in this chapter.
How though? It's not like there's "to spicy" for a dragon, or hybrid child. Not to mention, sour can be countered with sugar and tiny bit of fats, ie lard, oil, butter, cream etc
