At the screening I went to in Seattle (the first IMAX 3D showing at that theater, which was sparsely attended, though it looked like the regular showings were drawing well), I didn't see any full-blown fursuits; but around a fifth of the population was, well, visibly furry -- T-shirts, hoodies with ears on them, etc.
Imagine this, these being used for recreation. Like say you are about to go on hike, maybe a feline form would be best used. Cold, why not become a wolf for those months, all the glorious fur to keep the cold air out. Now assuming there is more than mamals, say you are researcher and need to head into the ocean, pick an animal that can handle that.
