Something I like to do when filling in those tiny windows/ gaps is to invert select around the character, and then bucket fill beneath the character using the same color as the line art.

In order to quickly fill in linework with color using the selection or bucket tool (color would be on a layer underneath the linework of course), the lines can't have any gaps in them, correct? I've tried everything I can think of to make it easier to color-fill without having to find every teeny space between lines, but if there is a way, it eludes me x3
