I NEGLECT the French on my gallery, I dont really know why considering they were the military superpower for most of the time periods in which I draw. (Fuck you people who make French Retreat Jokes.) I saw a picture that inspired this one earlier, and honestly I REALLY like how this one came out, felt like a return to glory for some of my old quality of artwork. I'm glad to be working on a quick pic just before starting on Koviells commission, Expect more from me soon!
Edit: I admit im not the most keen on World War 1 uniforms, especially on the french side... sooooo expect some stuff to probably be out of place or inaccurate. If you see something, do tell me and criticize in the comments though! :D

The French were in a deep financial and moral low after they barely survived WW II.
my point is that France was the leading military power of Europe for many centuries and, amongst other things, responsible for the the success American Revolution. While Americans, always banging out the "French-are-cowards" jokes, never won anything without the whole world to their aid. American soldiers are such crybabies that they need enormous bombings with countless civil damage before they start moving, and even then they are unable to defeat low trained arabs. Something we did 1000 years ago and we had to wear buckets on our heads.

The French were A superpower in most of time periods you draw not THE superpower. I think you'll find we Brits were the most powerful Empire of the time. & it's a good thing too. We did alot of good throughout the world.
What I want to know is, why did Germany go through Belgium to get to France? Surely they knew we'd come in & fuck them up.
Also, why the heck did we & Russia fight alongside Serbia? They fucking started the war?

No, i do indeed mean THE superpower for most of the time periods I draw. France held military supremacy over all the other nations of Europe (including england) for a very long time. The frankish empire, The hundred years war, franco spainish war, 30 years war, right the way up through to the Napoleonic Wars where they pretty much kicked everyones ass 10 times over.
Germany made a decisive move to go through belgium, but with the triple entente powers being decided before the war i believe germany thought english entry was inevitable, wether they went through belgium or not, and i think thats an accurate statement.
And as for Serbia its pretty simple, Serbia was tied to Russia and so Russia joined the war. Previously treaties had been signed between france and Russia that if germany fought a war against Russia France would join. And then the rest of the entente powers joined behind france, all with pretty much the same underlying goal "weaken germany and austria" however obviously they fucked that up with war reparations, and only being saved by the graces of Russia in WWII (however likely nazi germany was doomed to fail, even if they won WWII)

Also the basic misconception that the Schlieffenplan is the only plan to win, its incredible though that under different circumstances, like the usa not joining the war. The German army would have had a chance to win WWI, at the time of a final offensive chit of the Reichswehr, the French Army had a mutiny of the same power you will later see in Germany, but US troops were able to fill the gap the french soldiers left, the war could have been won by Germany on several other occasions aswell, the command structure was more developed than in the other countries and soldiers overall had better equipment in the early years. Think about that the British did not even have Handgrenades early on and that the Germans had a lot more artillery pieces. In the End there were a lot of mistakes made by the OHL Chief of Staff Falkenhein, whos also been called "der ewige Zauderer", basically meaning the eternal Waverer as he never put up the guts to call a single offense and instead shipped soldiers into position without using them for an assault on other targets, wasting valuable time and Supplies that the germans did not have. Supply wise the Allies had a lot more to put up.
In the later phase of the war the French still used the stupid attack of l`attack a outrance (please dont kill me for mispelling) and pretty bad generals who did not adapt well to modern technology usage in the war.
The Treaty of Versaille was also only reluctanly signed because funnily enough there was even a plan for rejection in place and it was barely decided that the treaty is the only way to start building the nation again, otherwise the WWII would have lasted quite a lot longer with the easter conquered territories becoming a bastion especially as Supplies from the fertile land there started to slowly flow into the country, but with the massive revolt there was basically noone to fight anymore.
