Thank you!
What type of animal are you making??
And tips on which part? Uhm...off the top of my head, before actually cutting the fur and using it, make sure you cut out a test piece, from cheap fabric or old bedsheets or something. That way if it messes up, it won't be the expensive fur wasted.
For the head I used paper towels to make a test piece/pattern. =P
If you want tips on anything else, feel free to ask, though I am far from a master of making fursuits.
Good luck! And make sure you post pics when it's done!! :3

I just used foam to make the mouth, then covered it with fur. The inside of the mouth is made from one of those sheets of colored foam you find at the crafts store.
I wanted to make a moving jaw, but I ran out of money and I just wanted to hurry and finish it so I got kinda sloppy.
As for the pattern, I didn't trace myself... but I measured how tall I was from the neck down, and then just drew a simple pattern on old Christmas gift wrap. XD Then I cut it out, held it against my body to see how it looked, and fixed any small mistakes.
It was mostly just a lot of guessing, cuz I play it risky like that. It could have gone wrong but it didn't.
Oh yeah another thing; Always cut it BIGGER than you need it. It's a lot better to have too much, than too little.

Omg, sorry for the late reply. >,<
BUT first I left about two inches for the extra space, and that didn't work out cuz it still turned out too small.
I'd say as for the length (shoulder/neck to the feet), make it about a half a foot longer than you think you'll need. I was surprised how much fur I needed down there at the foot-paws. You can always cut the extra fur off.
As for the width, probably about three inches. Then do a baste stitch down it (a quick loose stitch), and make it closer and closer to the center until it's as fitting as you want to be. ^_^
Then you can sew it up nice and tight.
OH YEAH also make sure you can bend over and stretch in it, and do poses, and make sure it's not too tight. You don't want the thread snapping... I've had that problem with other costumes too.
Hope this helps, & again sorry for the late reply.
