I find funny this scene partly because it's one of the few scenes of the story when we see a little glimpse about the Standard language used in universe. While how that language works is already explained in the comic, I always failed to get the basics, other than the Standard language is phonetic and the font used, since I have that font in my PC, but the only use I have for it is for "writing" English text with it, since there's no explanation for the basics, like saying "Hello, my name is (insert name here)" for a better example.

Yup. The Albedo RPG has a bit more background on how the language "works" though. Hey Steve, was that you or Paul (Kidd) that worked out the language to go with the alphabet? Just curious.

I'd worked out a thing with it, don't recall if Paul explained it as well/better. I did, at one time, sort out all the fiddly-bits regarding the phonetics, don't recall if they got published though. Was thinking of a more European sound to the language- none of the American English blairing vowels, for example.

Well, the RPG does includes the alphabet and how each letter is pronounced, but it doesn't explain how the grammar, rules, and all linguistic stuff works in the Standard language. There's very few references about how the language should be spoken, other than the use of the word "khai" for describing the Creators.

Looking too hard for something that isn't there. The background dialog was only to suggest local vernacular. Getting all geeky on actually doing a language is a level of world-building that I'd consider just too much work- especially as I don't have the academic background to do it right- and becomes more of a fussy distraction than anything that actually contributes to the story. Tolkein did it because he was a linguistic scholar and had plenty of material to steal from (Bev knew way too much of where he went) and it was all part of the fun of that particular work. In this case, the "source" language isn't important as it is all "translated"- with only the occasional bit thrown in just for flavor.

Is the font in trutype format?

Yes, there's also versions for Macs as well, but I only have the Trutype version installed in my PC.

Where can I find it?

In the internet, I don't know. The one I have I downloaded it years ago (about 1996 more or less), but I can send it to you if you want, and Mr. Gallacci doesn't mind it)
