Maroon is a Sableshifter, an incredibly small (closed) shapeshifting species that inhabit the world of Aerth, some venture into our world and become Domestics. Sableshifters are powered by the gem set into their chest, and to power the gem means taking souls of both Aerthians and Humans alike. They do this by shapeshifting themselves into something adorable/charming to the victim's tastes, and once they begin to fall for the little shifter, they will revert their forms and sap the vulnerable soul from their prey.
