That's the magic of it all. The TV and Books we read as kids tell us to imagine as big as we can! All the while, the school system and adults tell us to expect the worst, and rig it so that they're right.

also when I was little and found out that I'm genetically inclined to schizophrenia (thank god it skipped me) my only consolation was hoping that I would slip into a magical happy fantasy world instead of the scary sad world like my grandma.

I never learned to use the Force, or any kind of psychic powers for that matter.
There weren't any fairies in my garden, and stepping into fairy wings never got me kidnapped and taken away to fairyland.
No one ever came to tell me I was the one prophesised to save their kingdom and rule over it with wisdom and justice. (Not that I would have: I'd have been a tyrannical dictator. But they wouldn't have known that.)
And I never gained the ability to shapeshift.
