Part one of my 2 part Wolf Report for Jan 28th 2009. I reveiw Repo, the Genetic Opera, a punk rock/gothic opera about a terrible future where organs can be repossesed if you fail to make payments on time. With fantastic music, bad-ass scenery, and a well written story, Repo is the new Rocky Horror Picture Show of this generation

This movie really was quite fun in my opinion and the whole story behind it's creation and eventual production is as entertaining as the movie itself.
The director of the saw movies, for instance, was trying to green light this thing for over three years and his producers would always tell him "Oh yeah! Saw was fantastic! You can make anything you want, movie-wise. What's on your mind? What do you want to do?"
He'd tell them, repeatedly, "I'd like to do a rock opera."
They'd respond with, "oh kay no no no... just make another Saw movie. People like the Saw movies."
And that's why this movie will probably be forgotten by many save for a few followers who really need to get the word out there via word of mouth and youtube, because there really is a larger market for this kind of thing it's just the public stigma of "opera" makes it seem "uncool" for some reason in the minds of many of the Hollywood elite.

I really respect the Saw directors. These guys really proved that you don't need high budget and huge special effects to make a fantastic movie series. Saw to me is one of the more intelligent thrillers on the market behind Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. These two really understand what it is to make a great movie and when I heard Twisted Pictures was behind this Opera, I was instantly interested.
This movie was something of pure genius. The whole storyline is rather dark and can be seen as a realistic way the world could turn out to be. The music was really upbeat; makes you want to headbang to the lyrics (which i do when I listen to the soundtrack *Grins*) The cast was spot on, even Paris Hilton was entertaining to watch.
Trust me my friend; I've already turned on a lot of people at work about this movie. I think it was a blessing that Sweeny Todd did as good as it did because people are willing to check out operas and musicals now that they see that they are not all just these Sound of Music plays; but that there are very dark and gothic musicals out there as well.
I am telling you; just you wait. We will be seeing midnight showings of Repo alongside with Rocky Horror. I am sure of it. Instant cult classic.
