Side view pic of my feathered raptor suit at the official photoshoot from FurCon 2016. This one managed to take 1st place in the Masquerade this year. (this is a super late update, but I've been busy with RL stuff)

Feathers are attached in rows to elastic bands, which are then sewn onto the base fabric. There's a 3-4 in gap between the elastic bands but it's not visible since each row of feathers covers up the base from the row before it. Most of the torso and upper legs are just fur shaved down into a feather pattern, with the craft feathers taking up the head, back, and tail.
Yeah man, it was cool hanging out and seeing some of your other suits. Your gryphon was very well done!
I'd thought about suiting more than I did, but by the time I got through the parade and photo-shoots, it had been a solid 3 days on-and-off in suit and everything was getting a bit too grimy to continue (not to mention tracking down friends to act as handler is hard when you're rooming alone).
Unfortunately, I'm not sure when the next con I make will be. I had registered for BLFC, but I'm starting a new job in a couple weeks so I won't have the time off yet. I do plan to make at least part of ESG since it's here in Vegas, but that's not quite the same.
