Hey guys! This one has a bit of a story behind it, I hope you guys enjoy this piece!
First and foremost, this was a GIFT for my good friend
I hardly ever do gift arts, but something Deth did a little while back really struck a chord with me, and I wanted to share it all with you.
Warning: The next link will have OLD art. Like, three years old art. Y'see, waaayy back when I was first getting the hang of FA and commissions, one of the first few people to commission me was good ol' Deth. He commissioned me for things I'd rarely done before, including a background, environment, and clothing- but he was super supportive of it, understanding and considerate and all in all enjoyed the final product. So here it is, a blast from the past.
Aaahhh just looking at it makes me- well, it makes me feel lots of things. Obviously, I cringe a little because "woowww I was so baaaad back then" is my first reaction, but it's followed by a few others: "woooww, I've come so far!" is a proud thought I have, "wooow, I need to remember where I started" is a humble one, and then "woooww... people paid for and enjoyed this" is a grounding one- no matter where or how I started out, I was still making art that people enjoyed.
Still, it's old as dirt, right? ... Right? Well, Deth had very recently put this up on his Twitter to show a friend. I saw it and thought... "HE REMEMBERS THAT?!?!?!" And then... "HE STILL LIKES THAT?!?!?" and then... ".... he commissioned that and he remembers that and that he liked that and he still likes it and..." ;___; And then the feels.
So I remade it, in a new way. I wanted to show Deth my thanks- for commissioning me as an artist just starting out, for being supportive of my art and my artistic career, and even after all this time, still showing it off with pride and enthusiasm. That means the absolute world to me as an artist.
My outlook on my progression as an artist has always been this: Each drawing I make will be an improvement from the last. If I keep on drawing, I will keep on improving. So the more I draw, the better I will get. I don't ever want to stop drawing and I hope I never stop growing as an artist. It's important to remember where I came from, but it's also important to look ahead and strive for where I can go from here.
So thank you to Deth, and to each and every one of you out there that has ever commissioned and artist, complimented them, favorited their art, reassured them that they're doing well and that have kept with them, encouraging them and reminding them that their stuff is appreciated and enjoyed. As artists, we are always overly critical of our work, but that's because we always want to be better than what we currently are. It's hard sometimes to stop and think, "this that I just did, this art I made just now, y'know what, it's okay, I like it, I did good". So when others help us say that for us, well, it's just about the greatest thing in the world.
