I wish to show you
all that I can,
which is quite a lot:
all that I've seen.
Though I hardly believe
that I have seen it all.
You asked to see
the sun, your god
rising to make the morning
and I complied
though I do not believe
in the divinity of that orb.
But now I carry you
back into the tent,
my heart heavy
but for what?
Why do I care that
you are denied your false god?
Because you wanted it so dearly.

Witnessing the suffering of another is the basis of almost all dramatic works, more or less, so.. I wouldn't feel too bad about it.
It's compelling, since you inherently wonder if people will overcome the adversity that faces them.
