Just a tiny hunch you went a little overboard with the size puns. Some of them were pretty big successes, though.

Well the joke was never intended to be the puns themselves, but more the ambiguity of if they were intentional or not. It's kind of that situation where you're trying to ignore the elephant in the room, but it feels like it keeps being brought to your mind.
