This is the main air superiority aircraft used by the Hisszao, Birdies, in A&K-1. The design reflects several areas where they have pursued different strategies for aircraft development. While Birdie fighters are about as fast and as maneuverable as Earth aircraft, especially since they've been modified to operate in Earth's atmosphere, they do have a several advantages.
One, all Birdie aircraft are VTOL so they can operate from a wide variety of bases on Earth. Second, their aircraft possess much better range for fuel-load compared to Earth craft. This gives their aircraft greater loiter time and the ability to strike from great range without requiring all the support aircraft, tankers, that an Earth strike package needs. Third, when used in conjunction with a special drop sled they can be deployed directly from orbit and can even picked up and taken back up into space again under some conditions.
The Birdies aircraft use a malleable wing structure that permits wing warping to change the shape of the wing and elevator for various altitudes and flight conditions, and by flexing or moving the feather-like structures on them. They have much more faith in their sensors and have gone with canopy-less design for most operations. Also they carry all weapons in internal weapons bays and usually have slight advantage in warload capacity. This also means that they can only carry weapons that fit in there and have trouble carrying additional payload or fuel. Earth intel has only recently observed scabbed-on external hardpoints on some enemy aircraft.
