I like very much how I control light and color with this. Do any of you like it? I might just paint this way very often. What say you?

Mmm... I'm not sure it's so much about "less detail" that a much more overall view. Sitting right close the screen, you don't see the face and painting so much as a whole, but in sections. In thumbnail size, you see the whole head, and as such, you see how the lighting/shading looks at a glance.
AHHH OKAY that helps. It really helps me. Like, takes one notch out of the quiet desperation that i never talk about to anyone because it's not really their problem but anyway-- see I never get this feedback, and I never see what the problem is, and thus have been stagnating since about 2006 this way. I need this more often, please give it. And oh. I've been curious about your fudog self. :> Can i see? ONLY.... only if you want to share. And I don't have to see. but it'd be neat :} please.
I'll try to make a point of mentioning such things from here on. :) It just strikes me that backgrounds traditionally are kind of dull or pale or something, deliberately kind of un-interesting to push the focus on the main subject of an image, so that bright magenta-ish colour is a different choice for the background. But one that I think works really neatly here, making the whole image 'pop' that much more.
Interesting stuffs. :) I just like the effect here! I'm sure it's something that could be taken too far, like maybe if the subject was too busy or detailed or something, then the background would start to detract from it... but here I just think it works really nicely. I dunno!
