A red fox vixen hula dancing on a tropical beach..
This was a piece I did for FC 2009 and it was used as the art on the dealers badges.
Done with inks and acrylics on 8"x10" illustration board.

Well - for the last 3 years, I've been doing the art for the dealers badges for Further Confusion - which was what this was for... and the first two years, I did a red fox - and then a silver fox. So, I kindof figured I'd stick with the foxes... especially since I've been going kindof heavy on the cats and not many canines in my personal work... And I chose red fox over the other color variants because I felt the bright orange would complement the theme nicely ... and it was nice to draw a canid, too. =)
Just... wow...
The colors are absolutely beautiful, and her expression...
gaaaahhhh! It's so hard to put it into words, and beautiful seems to fall short!
I have always been a big fan of your art, specifically the pieces you do for The Chakats Den, as I frequent that site. Your technique is fantastic, and the style of your characters is absolutely stunning!
I am in awe, especially since I haven't succeeded in perfecting stick figures
Take care, and all the best!

Beautiful piece of work. I was just wondering how you managed to transfer your traditional work onto the screen so beautifully. Do you take photos or do you use a scanner to do this? I'm struggling to get my scanner to pick up the detailing and not make my work look scratchy, how do you acheive the look? :D I'd love to know!
thanks! xxx

I use a scanner... and I piece my scans together in Photoshop, and also do leveling and cleanup in photoshop...
My scanner is an epson perfection 3590 photo - its a couple years old but still works fine... and I don't use any of the 'smart' scanning - because that tends to do weird things...
Even so, my originals still look better than the scans do - but I try to make the scans as close to the original as possible..

what levels do you use to adjust the colours? is it just the hue/saturation brightness or another? i scan my pieces at 300dpi and its not that im cutting and pasting them together because they're a4 or smaller, they just dont look smooth, i guess its a traditional artists bane trying to get it exactly how it is in real life.
thanks for the info <33

the levels i'm referring to is Image > Adjustments > Levels ... and theres some arrow sliders under the graph... bringing the far left and far right sliders closer to center makes the darks darker, the colors richer, and the whites lighter... countering the 'fogginess' that is natural when scanning something because of the glass... and other factors...
I generally don't mess with hue/saturation or brightness... although I have changed the hue once or twice when my blue/greens were looking too blue and not green enough. My scanners have always had trouble with blue/green.
300 dpi is good, thats what I use most of the time as well...
I'm not sure why they would look scratchy... maybe its just your scanner, unfortunately...
I also use the clone stamp tool to remove dust specks ... I've found it a very useful tool.

it was a brand new scanner only a couple of months ago so i guess i just have to play around with the settings to get it how i want. :3 ive never really used the levels you're talking about but i could give them a try to see if they work. :3
thank you so much its always handy to know how others manage to get their work looking the best it can :3

Oh she is CUTE. THe lighting is very well executed and appropriate for a sunny day. Very nice job =)
The depth is well described too =) , I like how shes inked and everything else isnt, so it pushes it back . I also appreciate how shes not smack dabb in the middle of the drawing. This is actually a very nice composition. Her outstretched hand really makes it dynamic. It creates this nice diagonal that leads the viewer to the focal point : the pretty foxie =)
Well done! I really love your art!

I normally don't comment on older art much. But this one warrants attention. The way you did the fur is outstanding, and the background makes me feel warm. (Even though I'm in AZ already) The eyes are very lively.
... for some reason I can't look at this without wanting to listen to Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole. =3
