He's a friggin' mountain troll. Finnish one. I don't think there's much difference to Norwegian trolls, aparently that Finnish ones seem to be filthy rich. At least sometimes.
(This story happens in between somewhere early 1800-1850.)
Nokko is pretty much a normal troll, ugly, hairy and more or less stupid. He lives in his own cave away from others and guards borders (though there's not much to guard it against but someone's got to do it) and spends his days there with his only intelligent companion, Aino the werewolf.

Her life as a werewolf sucks (yours would too if you were a wolf without any hunting instincts, unable to turn into human and a free punching bag to any real wolves if they knew about your humanity [there are actual mythology facts and yes, Finnish werewolves are wimps]) so she likes to spend time with Nokko where she's at least safe.
Being over fifty, Nokko is (relatively) wise enough to not pull as many crazy stunts as younger, but still strong enough to wrestle bears with one hand. Trolls live bit longer than humans and a 150 year old mountain troll would equal 90 year old human in age (not actual mythology) so he's still far from being actually old.
Oh yeah, like stated in the ref, his name isn't his real name, but everybody calls him something like that because he loves nettles. He eats them as a soup, bakes them in his bread and uses nettle water to wash his hair (true facts, these are all good).
He's pretty self-sufficient and what he can't hunt or make, he steals or buys from nearby humans who in their turn sometimes try to steal his gold and silver he has stashed away in his cave.

Aww. This sounds like a cute story D: Wimpy werewolves and kick ass mountain trolls. I, for some odd reason, really enjoy the fact that he like jewelry and I don't know why. Its just one of those little character tidbits that points out 'hay I has personality, I am not just any troll.'
Well I have to admit that I went just slightly "aww" too when I though this up. But just slightly. Yeah.
Really? That's really nice to know, since it's always so hard to know what adds something to the character and what's just useless (though different people like different things).

Whenever you tell something about your characters and ideas I keep thinking "MAN what comic/show is this from?" and then you say it's just an idea and I can't read or watch anything. You tease. Draw 1000-page comic and produce it into a cartoon naooowww! They would so beat any finnmanga, kiroileva siili or those damn new TV-shows.
Also; canon werewolves. AWESOME!

Ahahahahaha nooooo they're not that good.
And I'm definately not confident enough of my storytelling abilities (nor with my patience) to start with 1000 pages, never, but maybe I could try doing some short, 10 page thing, sometimes? Because I totally should do more comics, it's just hard to keep my interest up while doing them.

Watercolour ect stuff are relatively fast, especially since they are pretty "uncontrollable". But if I had to put 40 hours on a digital painting or 3D model I'd get bored immediately. Same with comics. I can't take every panel or page as a new thing, I just count it being continuation of the original. :C
