Turn tail traitor (Chapter one: Tavern attack)
Hey everyone who reads this. First off thanks! Second this is yet another random story I have had in my head. I hope you guys like it and I hope that you have some comments on how my writing is. Thanks guys! Love yall!
As I stepped into the tavern the eyes set upon me and the conversations died down a bit. The patrons of this small roadside inn didn't react to me as I entered and took a seat at the bar. With a small cough I signaled the bartender and he shuffled over after a small grunt. He was an shorter gentleman and I could see from the graying within his fur that the rabbit had seen many moons in his life time. As he approached he looked at me for a moment then poked at his glasses attempting to see through my hood. Drooping my head I kept most of my muzzle from view and simply asked for a glass of red flower tea. The chubby old rabbit twitched his nose before turning in place and stooping down to retrieve a glass. I sat silently with both arms on the counter enjoying the fire and the shelter from the rain. I have been traveling the roads along the Brittle Coral Coast for three days now and the rain has yet to yield. Feeling how light my pouch was I sighed and pulled out four of the remaining nine coins I had. After handing me the tea the bartender swiped his coins from the table and into his palm before returning to his conversation at the other end of the bar. Flitting with the few white hairs that remained from his paw I sighed pondering my poor situation and the problems back home. The first sip of tea was rejuvinating and I let out a small sigh before taking the next drink. The smooth earthy flavor of a flower, normally used to make potions, has been a favorite of mine since I was a pup. It reminds me a simple times. A point in my life when all I had to worry about was getting in trouble or getting sick with the rainy season. Another sip of the poorly made tea brought the memory of working on the windmill with father. We lived near the top of Itzlib mountain and... damn I miss it. The cup was almost empty but I was fine with that. I would have to head out soon anyway.
The door to the tavern firmly opened and I gasped lightly hearing the clattering of metal plate and the jangling of many chains. The various conversations stopped as the others took the presence of the south realm guards. I slipped from my stool and used it to try and mask my presence, if only for a little while. The head guard began to shout orders for everyone to silence themselves.
"Everyone in the bar form a line, now!" The burly hog snarled raising a clenched fist to the main patrons.
"We are in pursuit of a small canine male. All tan with a black and white markings. Now we understand how vague the description is people but..." The feline commander was cut off as the other residents began to stare in my direction.
With a gruff bark I kicked the stool, using the bar as leverage. The chair sailed forward and knocked the boar off of his feet with a large stream of blood tracing the way down. Pieces of chair scattered across the bar as a woman screamed and several people fled for the door. The third guard, who was a canine like myself, lunged forward with his already drawn longsword. I kicked off the floor and the counter to flip myself up and over onto the bar in flash. His blade pierced the base of bar and as he looked up at me I delivered a sturdy straight kick to his mouth, though I aimed for the nose. As he fell I saw the commanding officer had drawn a crossbow and was already aimed! Dropping back off the bar I felt the bolt lightly cut the shoulder of my cloak allowing fur to poof out. I hit the floor behind the bar just in time to see the bar owner swinging a large club straight down toward me. Gasping I kicked off the back of the bar at an angle and slid through the fat bunnies legs. Rolling over my back I landed on all fours and looked for a quick exit. The only window was too small even for me and as the rabbit man turned around to attempt to attack me again I saw my angle. The old rabbit swung the club downward with a nasally shout but I simply hopped backward watching his weapon hit the floor. Jumping atop his weapon I leapt straight upward and kicked the rabbit as I rose with a sharp roundhouse. As I turned I saw the bolt flying at me and I took one breath as I swung my hand recklessly. I connected caught the bolt and landed atop the counter rolling I threw it like a combat dart and hit the cat in the chest causing him to recoil for a second. I took a powerful leap and flew from the bar all the way to the still delirious swine. I landed on his pot belly and used it as a springboard. Flying threw the air I lifted my fist and landed a powerful punch, which took the cat off his feet and allowed me to land near the door.
Kicking the door open I rushed out into the rain and darted into the fields across from the inn. Looking back I saw another wagon pull up to the tavern and I let out a long sigh of relief. The fields tall grass whipped my face in the night but I could care less. I didnt get caught. Now that I think about it I probably could have just slipped out while the guards did the line up. The soft grass underpaw soon became thick roots as I rushed further into the depths of the Banijii forest. Soon though I tired and fell to my knees in a small patch of moonlight. I could feel sweat beading in my fur and I removed my hood to shake off. Walking with my ears free felt nice and the forest smelled very sweet, which was easier to enjoy with a lifted nose. My escape was easy this time. South shores kingdom is small and the guards are spread thin. I figured it would be easy to hide here but it makes sense a bounty would have been sent here as well. I just expected a little more time. Damn. I will get out of this. I will clear my name. I will get to go... home. I stared up at the moon hoping for some form of direction in the night. Weary and aching I pressed on through the night.
