HERE SHE IS! I've talked about her for months and now finally I got around to uploading old art of her.
THIS sphinx here is Yashendwirh sister, Rowendrah. She's part barn owl, part snowleopard.
Conveniently, no face for you o: One day I'll actually do a frontal pic of her. This was originally just a sketch on wing studies, seeing as how I don't get very dynamic wing poses, but it slowly evovled into Rowendrah :3
In this pic, Rowendrah and Yashendiwrh had been seperated, and wherever Rowendrah is right now, she's wishing Yashi knew she is ok. :3

immensely beautiful, makes me pine to see just how she really looks, bt at the same time i enjoy the feeling of the unknown and allowing our imaginations to form our own concept of mystical beauty.
she does bare some highly interesting wing structure, something about them seems so enjoyable what with how they seem more ornamental but not so, they really add to her mystique.
her clothing, very fitting the cloth folds as they cascade down the stairs are nicely done, feels almost natural, did you use ref shots?
but what i think gets me the most is how she stands out from the rest of the picture, now i figure this is due to you creating her first then working a backdrop around her, if my theory is correct then i have to say you pulled that off quite well, but it may also be due to the coloring style. either way its the glow she projects, could you please tell me how you got that moon to glow so brightly, i can hardly believe its due to traditional means. beautiful.

To explain how I did her clothing, I knew where she was standing was going to have stairs, so I first sketched vertical lines to make it visually accepting, realisting, as they fell down the stairs, then crated bunched uneven circled as the undersketch for the top of the stairs. In the end, no, I didn't use any references. Probobly because in highschool, I spent a lot of my time practicing and studying the folds of clothes, stretching, draping and cascading as well as fabric types. It was probobly the most active I was in art. I might also have a knack for drawing folds because I like making dresses and other such things and can imagine how they'd fall/drape and sting across objects or the body.
Also, for the moon, I totally cheated xD If you look by the right wing, theres a reddish-pink stain caused from a juise spill. I tried airing it out and gently rubbing away at the surface layer, since the watercolor paper was thick, but I rubbed a hole in the canvas, so I built the window a little further out than intention and left the hole in the paper. Hoping to heal tool the hole in photoshop, I was pleasantly suprised to see that, while scanning, the hole caused an illimination slightly when the scanner light passed over the area at max res, so I made a contrast adjustment to the area, so that it was even lighting, and just left it xD
