Yes, I'm aware real wolf packs don't actually include alphas. However, Bowman didn't want his creations to be disorganized, not just because they weren't naturally born to wolves, but because he likens them to, believe it or not, a labor union. Ash's rather, shall we say, 'ripped' physique and rebellious, very messy 'mane' is but an unfortunate side effect of it.
