Look at that big inflated belly. <3 http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013.....09_634x366.jpg
Its all a matter of scale.. The younger a Dragosect is, the easier it is to befriend them, with newborns freshly hatched being the easiest to tame.
The older an bigger they get, it becomes more about the Dragosect's temperament.
Taming an adult is next to impossible, unless you can match or surpass their power. Friendships however are more common, as some adult might form a friendship with someone they might otherwise view as a toy, food, or both.
More common than that, Dragosects tend to take servant's from 'lesser' races, such as humans.
This may lead to friendship should a servant prove themselves worthy.

Not entirely complete quite yet, still got the 'epilogue' to work on, but until I can actually manage that hopefully this will be enjoyable enough.
Luminescence
Jensen swallowed hard as he looked up at the creature towering above him. If he was lucky it would consider him too small to be of interest. Not so lucky... well, in that case he was pretty sure that the portable drill he had with him wouldn't do much good, given how vast the creature was. Like a pin-prick to an giant, if anything it would probably just anger the thing.
As he waited Jensen mentally berated himself for being so careless. When his survey gear had pinged him regarding a sizable deposit of crystals he'd rushed off, paying more attention to his footing and the gear than what was around him. Stumbling upon the cavern he now found himself in his attention had immediately been drawn to the large glowing patch of exposed crystals, and he'd been half way across the large 'room' before he'd even bothered to look up, only to stop in confusion at what he was seeing. There were... lights across the cavern. Given the various luminescent crystals that dotted the large cavern system of this planet seeing glowing patches wasn't an uncommon occurrence, however he'd never seen such a large concentration of them before, nor ones that pulsed in such a strange fashion.
And then the 'lights' had moved forward, brightening in the process, and his confusion was quickly replaced with fear as the massive creature was revealed.
Interrupting his thoughts the creature shifted it's position, crouching down slightly before bringing it's head forward to more closely examine him. A deep thrumming noise came from it's throat as it tilted it's head this way and that, almost as if it wasn't quite sure what to make of him, an action that brought with it a sliver of hope. If the creature was capable of curiosity there was a real possibility of a brain more advanced than 'food/fight', and in that case he might be able to make it out of this intact after all.
Apparently coming to some sort of decision the creature reached down and placed a ‘hand’ atop the pile of crystals, before looking at him and making a clacking noise with it’s mandibles. Though unfamiliar with ‘giant glowing creature’-speak it seemed clear that it was letting him know that the glowing crystals was it’s, and not for him. Not sure how to respond Jensen slowly nodded his head, hoping that the gesture would be taken in the fashion he meant it. Staring at him for a few moments the creature tilted it’s head slightly as it slowly clicked it’s mandibles, before carefully reaching down and picking up a small(to it) chunk of glowing crystal, holding it out to him with what looked like an expectant look on it’s face.
The creature had just met him and even after having made it’s ‘claim’ clear it was showing a willingness to share it's possessions with him. Even the most social of animals would be unlikely to act in such a fashion, and it had him again raising his estimation of it's potential intelligence. Carefully setting his drill down he held out his hands, gingerly taking the head-sized glowing crystal in his hands as the creature carefully handed it to him. As he stood there, unsure of what to do next, the creature tilted it's head, watching him as it made the strange thrumming noise again, though slightly higher pitched this time, almost as though it were waiting for a response to it's 'gift'.
Between the adrenaline brought about from the encounter, and now the strange noise Jensen couldn't help himself and he let out a short chuckle, the noise swallowed up in the vast cavern though not before reaching the creature, which raised it's eyes in surprise before responding with it's own noises, though pitched closer to his own as though joining him in his laughter.
As the moment of humor passed Jensen was reminded of just how heavy the rock in his hands was, as his arms began to ache slightly from holding it up for so long. As he moved to place it on the ground a thought occurred to him. One gift deserves another after all, it was only right that he return the favor as best he could, even if he wasn't quite sure how yet. A moment of though however and he had an idea.
Reaching down Jensen placed the crystal on the ground before picking up his drill once more, an action that had the creature before him tilting it’s head in curiosity, though he tried not to let it distract him. Snapping the butt of the drill against it’s holster, designed to carry most of the weight and allowing him free use of one of his hands, he tapped the side of the device twice in quick succession, causing a holographic display to appear listing the contents of the drill’s storage compartment.
The MacGuffin brand ‘Compressed Matter Storage System’, or ‘Ceemess’ to most miners was designed to allow a single miner to carry loads of gems and precious metals that would otherwise be far too unwieldy for a single person to handle. Though he had no clue as to the science behind it the effects were simple enough to see in action. Simply scan the ore or gems with the device, confirm the selection, and the device would ‘suck up’ the material, to be stored in a near weightless state within.
Though the device did have it’s limits, only being able to absorb non-living material of less than a cubic meter in size, with a total storage capacity of one-hundred cubic meters or one ton, the ability to carry what would otherwise require heavy machinery with ease allowed freelance miners such as himself to perform jobs that would have taken large teams of men to do. Go to a promising area, get as much valuable material as possible and then sell it to whichever company or individual cared to pay the most for it. Simple, profitable, and usually relatively safe.
Tapping through the list of items he had a thoughtful expression on his face as he weighed the various options. This one was big, but fairly bland in appearance. That other one was more impressive, but also fairly small, barely more than a handful to him, meaning it would barely be a speck to such a large creature. At last he stumbled upon one he thought would do the trick, a large orange crystal deposit with a pulsing light almost like a heartbeat, one he hoped would make a suitable gift.
Tapping the display he confirmed both his choice and his desire to ‘withdraw’ it from the storage banks, and a moment later a blue beam shot out from near the tip of the drilling device, slowly ‘re-building’ the crystal on the floor. As the seconds ticked by, with the crystal gradually reforming before him he glanced up at the creature to see that it was watching the process closely, head tilting back and forth as though to give it a better view.
Finally the process was complete, and the crystal left resting on the floor below. Again lowing the drill Jensen crouched down, and with a grunt of effort picked up the heft rock, before turning to hold it out towards the creature, mimicking it’s actions from before. As the seconds ticked past without the creature moving he began to worry that he may have made a mistake, though before he could think about it too much a large hand slowly extended, ever so carefully taking the rock from his hands before bringing it before the creature’s face. As the creature examined the glowing stone Jensen found that he was holding his breath, hoping that the ‘gift’ would be acceptable. It’s not every day you meet such a strange and apparently intelligent species after all, first impressions were important.
At last the creature seemed content with it’s examination as it gently lowered the crystal until it was resting in a central spot amongst it’s collection, patting it for good measure as though to settle it within the pile. It would seem his gift was indeed acceptable.
Before he could relax however one of the creature’s arms reached out and picked him up in it’s large hand, causing him to drop the drill in surprise. Thankfully the drill was built to handle such rough treatment, the same could not be said for humans though, even ones in suits designed for mining work, and that thought had him hoping that the creature’s intentions were benign as it raised him up to eye level to more closely examine him.
Bringing it’s other hand over it gently ran a ‘finger’ over the protective helmet of his suit, apparently curious as to the clear cover that enclosed his head. While not too concerned that the helmet would hold given it was meant to withstand rockslides in a worst-case-scenario, it was more than a little disconcerting to be held up as he was by a creature that positively dwarfed his comparatively tiny body.
Luckily for Jensen’s nerves a quick examination was apparently enough to satisfy the creature’s curiosity, as it carefully deposited him back near his drill after only a short minute or so.
An uneasy minute passed as the two stared at each other, each apparently waiting for the other to do something before Jensen decided that while this had been an interesting diversion he should probably get back to looking for another crystal deposit, this one having been ‘previously claimed’ as it were. Hoping the action wouldn’t lead to problems he picked up his drill again before scanning and storing the ‘gift’ he had been given, but other than a slight tilt of the head and some minor chittering noises, the action went without a hitch regarding the creature.
Attaching the drill to it’s harness he regarded the creature a moment before shrugging and waving his arm. “Goodbye then you strange thing you.” Turning about he started back towards the camp, musing about his strange morning before hearing noises behind him. Turning back around it seemed the creature had decided to follow him, trailing behind him twenty or so feet behind.
Well, this could be problematic...
