"Do you know what today is?" asked Inanna.
"Yeah...First day of Spring. I 'spose you want me to start plantin." replies Bronco.
"Well, that is sort of true. But you can start preparing the garden tomorrow, Bronco... Tell me, have you ever heard of Johnny Appleseed, Bronco?
"Who? Wha? Que?"
Inanna smiles "John Chapman (September 26, 1774 – March 18, 1845), often called Johnny Appleseed, was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania, Ontario, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, as well as the northern counties of present-day West Virginia. He became an American legend while still alive, due to his kind, generous ways, his leadership in conservation, and the symbolic importance he attributed to apples."
"Wow!" Bronco exclaims.
"Wow, is right. So, in his honor, today you will be Bronco Appleseed at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Pass out seeds of learning to children, Bronco, and pass on the story and wisdom of John Chapman and the importance of caring and tending the land."
