Some of the work I have done for
lljkotaru's upcoming series, "Emperor." There's a WIP site available here: http://emperorthebook.com/ where a preview and other information will be posted in the future.

"KANEIN
The kanein are a roughly humanoid spacefaring race from the planet Ka some 1500 light years distant from Sol. Their primary governing body is a representative republic known as The Imperial Conclave when addressed in modern times, The Northern Conclave in an historical sense , or simply as The Empire in a casual/improper tone.
The only other governing body on the planet is the Empire's sole protectorate, The Trinity. While the Empire is largely a secular multi-ethical nation, the Trinity is a Jakiu Theocracy centered on a religious figure known as The Pharon (The Fruit of God).
Physically by and large when compared to the average human, the kanein are taller, owing most of their body mass to a circulatory and respiratory system that evolved to cope with the cold, thin atmosphere of their home world. To stand at sea level on Ka would be the Earth equivalent of standing at 10,000 feet in the Laplands of Finland in the height of winter.
The large Uva and Uvb output from their small dim B-class subdwarf star and relatively thin atmosphere forced Ka’s biology to rely on a visual sensitivity to ultraviolet light.
The Kora, Kera and Hyan primarily reside from the snowy boreal forests of the mountainous north while the Jakiu and Dahman herald from the more temperate wind swept grasslands of the equatorial range.

Footman Personal Protection Kit-
Designed forty years prior to the events leading up to the Contact war, this medium-duty combat protection system was the standard for elements of the Imperial military and Civil Police. Composing of mostly a soft, flexible ballistic resistant fiber apron it afforded its wearer both an acceptable level of protection against fragmentation and small caliber projectiles while still allowing a reasonable level of flexibility. Despite being phased out for the T-392a during the Contact War, it was still heavily used by Police officers, Naval Security and Tank crews until the end of the War.
T-392a Combat Protection Kit –
Seeing that the Footman Kit was no longer adequate, Emperor Lethra ordered the Ministry of Defense to design a more robust system with the singular goal of increasing survivability amongst the Empire’s ground troops. As a result, the far more utilitarian T-392 consisted of many modular ceramic trauma plates that cover the vast majority of the body. The system was however heavier and considerable bulkier than the Footman Kit, limiting its availability to Infantry only. Despite the kit’s shortcomings, it dramatically improved a soldier’s chances of surviving a hit or at least mitigating the trauma to a lesser degree.
The Emperor’s Robe –
Almost a millennia prior to the Contact war was the Forging War with Jakiu theocracy known as the Trinity. At its center was The Pharon (The fruit of God); a single supreme religious icon that commanded the Trinity in its entirely as well as the thrall and slaves that had made up its foundation prior to the uprising. Out of this massive conflict, the Trinity fell and the Empire rose from the ashes of that war. Emperor Bicleese executed Pharon Satric following the Trinity’s surrender and dipped the Pharon’s brilliant white robes into the quagmire of blood and oil that surrounded the fields, staining them black. On its back, he painted the crest of the Northern Conclave from the slain Pharon’s blood and swore that every Emperor to follow him shall wear it as a reminder to the Jakiu that they will never bind anyone as long as the Empire stood. The fragile robes in modern times are only worn during special occasions and normally kept in a vault deep in the Grey Hall."
