My response to the Thursday Prompt from 17/Mar/2016. The theme was to write about your childhood pet becoming anthropomorphic or gaining the ability to speak. And yes, I chose Cheyenne because even though she wasn't a childhood pet, she was the closest and most cherished pet I've ever had so far in my life.
In this dialogue-heavy piece (I think it's about 99% dialogue to be honest) I take the readers to two points in the life arc that Cheyenne and myself shared. The first is the day I adopted her and the second is the last night we spent together before she had to be put down.
Definitely emotional to write. But rewarding as well. It helped me remember all the good times I had with my girl over the ten years I had her. I remembered her quirks and her personality and everything that made her, her. She was a great companion and I hope I did her well by interpreting through my imagination what her words with me would have been.
A special thank you goes out to
who made the portrait of Cheyenne you see above. I didn't ask her to do it and she surprised me by making it towards the end of last year after I returned to FA and told everyone of Cheyenne's passing. It's a fantastic piece and I can't thank her enough. And neither should you. So go off and tell her how awesome her artwork is.
Go do it now. You aren't allowed to read this piece until you do. :D
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy! (Even if you don't enjoy the story, you better love the artwork.)
