There was once a benevolent leader. Her kingdom was small but unprecedented. None could oppose her defenses. So with her walls unreachable she turned to acquiring knowledge. After a time she began to let immigrants join the city. One at a time and only those of common nature. Secretly she had begun to hone and perfect her magical passions on the inhabitants of her city. She gave them food, protection and a place to live, and in return she did as she pleased. At first this was accepted and the people reveled in their luxury and freedom. But eventually her gates rusted and walls cracked from her new obsession demanding all her attention. The perfect defenses dulled and weakened from lack of upkeep and maintenance, after all, none had attacked and none ever would they thought. The city fell and the people were dispersed.

So long ago this happened that none remember this leaders name anymore, but her tome of spells, potions and magics lived on. Few have managed to open this book and even fewer use it. But its power and range is unmatched in the magic of its kind. 223 spells of varying kinds. There used to be more but some pages but some have been stolen.
Some even attribute the creation of the first herm's existence to this book. Though others whisper the tales of the terrors of the dreaded name.
