I gotta agree with you on this one. It's not the lowest effort adoptables I've ever seen, but come on, if you're selling a character, sell a character.
I kind of am judgmental about this sort of thing. I've seen drama in the past where someone sold a completely generic character design as an adoptable, then started running around yelling about copyright infringements when someone else made a similar character. I've seen cases where the buyer or seller did that. I don't think Wen should be able to claim copyright of any babyfur maned wolf or tiger. And that IS what she's doing, as suggested by the line: "-100% rights to this character design for any purpose- commissions, comics, writing, etc."
"She's not claiming copyrights on every tiger that looks like that."
Yes she is. That is what the term "-100% rights to this character design for any purpose- commissions, comics, writing, etc." implies. If she meant that people can use the reference sheet for later, then she should spell that out.
And sorry for taking it so seriously, I've been harboring feelings about adoptable in general for too long.

I mean, more power to you artists if you can draw art and get people to pay you for it after the fact, but I seriously have seen too much drama with character rights and "OC do not steal" situations to sit idly by. You have the right to make money for your art, and both you and wen are extremely talented. But the phrase "Have I got a bridge to sell you" comes from situations where people were misled on what the seller is and isn't able to give away, and an artist doesn't get to sell exclusive rights for a species that exists IRL.
So yeah, I'm sorry to have upset you, but if my ranting gets you and wen to mind your adoptable rules and prevent just 1 instance of "OC do not steal" syndrome, then it's worth it in my opinion.

While I agree with you I don't agree with the way you went about it. There is always a nice way to do things. Noting an artist privately if you have questions about their descriptions or anything is the best way to approach a situation like this. Commenting like you and the others have leads to anger and outbursts that helps no one. Going into any problem with a level head is key. It was very simple for me to acknowledge my mistake and fix the problem. There was no need for anger.
Chill, seriously. It's not your art, and you're obviously not intending to buy any of the characters, so maybe you should try to be a little more respectful. If you had such an issue in the first place, openly vocalizing it so you can offend people can and will get you called out, and that's your own fault for lacking tact.
The way I pointed them out was to imply that it's too generic to sell exclusive character rights to the design "maned wolf" and "tiger." That's all. The artwork is great, I just took issue with what Wen specifically was saying she was selling. And she even agreed with me. And I apologized to both tato and wen.
The artist is selling all the rights to THAT design, not to ALL tigers, or bears or maned wolves. Geez. It isn't rocket science...
There is no "generic" tiger, or maned wolf, or sun bear. they are all going to look a little different, and this particular design is what that person has rights to.
Is that clear enough?

The point of having a drawing is so you don't have to try to describe exact colors and such to someone trying to do art of them. When other artists draw my characters, I don't give them a ref sheet, I give them an other piece of art that I think fits the character.
So if the person wanted someone to draw the maned wolf, just give them this piece of art.
You really want to make things harder than they truly are.

Sorry you've gotten so much grief over something like this Wen. Some things I've seen written here are quite the overreaction.
I hope this whole debacle doesn't leave too much of a dent in your mood. Don't let them discourage you for trying something new - putting your neck out there is never easy. Learn from the experience and try it again. It will only be better next time around.

I don't think Wen is crazy about me (what, lovable me?) but I nevertheless feel the need to interject.
I don't see anything wrong with these adoptables. I've seen people put up sheets of six characters, all identical except for color patterns, and try to sell them off as though they were unique. These clearly ARE unique, to the point where you can recognize each unique species. And the tiger, well, looks like a tiger. They all tend to be orange with black stripes. If you have an issue with that, take it up with Mother Nature. She's been using the same blueprint to make thousands of them for centuries.
These characters could probably stand to have some clothes beyond a diaper, the way Tato draws hers. But I think there's enough here to justify the price. You don't want 'em, you don't have to buy 'em.
By the way, is that a sloth bear in the middle? Because I dig those.

I admit that I am not the biggest fan of adoptables, But in the interest of discretion, I have to admit that I have bought a couple in the past, mostly due to very low prices and cute designs.
That being said, I wanted to say that I think these three designs are very cute. I am not sure how people have been saying that they don't have a unique design. All three of them do indeed have a unique design and are not "generic" in any way.
I am sorry that you have been getting this crap from people. It sounds more like jealousy to me.
I know that whomever buys these three will have adorable characters that they can enjoy for a long time to come.

Ok I've looked through these comments and i have to give my opinion on he matter the fact is its not that it's generic it's that atleast she put time into making art. You guys seem to forget that art is something that takes a lot of effort and when you observe someone like wen at work, it is amazing how talented she is and how much work she can put into her art. Appreciate detail. Also I will explain that if your going to bitch about the selling of a character when you buy it first of all our free to make hanged to that character to your hearts content as long as you keep some original detail so that it isn't a whole new character that you made up. Second when you make a character here are only a few choices you can make because of the millions of artists who come up with millions of characters each day! So how do you know hat you didn't already make a made character. It's all about how much effort and detail and what makes your character unique no matter what similarity it has to another furry. Ok plus we all had to start somewhere with our furries just appreciate art instead of criticizing the talent of someone else.
