Technically there is more than one mew (according to the movies) as ash is heard saying "it's a mew" instead of "it's mew". plus, unless the gameworld is completely different from the cartoon/movie world then the phrase used by the scientists that made mew were speaking figuratively as mewtwo was cloned from a fossil, the game I think was referring to the fact that he is a clone of a mew. and furthermore, the mew mewtwo was cloned from would have been male, like himself in order for him to be male. (plus, I don't think that the scientist would have used a fossil for trace DNA if they had a live mew they could clone at will.)
of course I personally do not connect the game and movies, because most of the legendaries lack gender, and I am certain metwo is male.

To TristanHawthorne: When your DNA is altered this much, related you are not. The concept of "inbreeding" if problematic comes only AND ONLY because of insufficient DNA differences. This case CLEARLY does not apply here, no matter which way Mewtwo was born.
Now for the pic...
Extremely funny! But well, what is not shown is that Mew dumped Lucario upon the spot when she learnt that Lucario was just a weak, low-tier regular (if in doubt, play D/P. Yes, this sucks). Thus, Mewtwo have the last laugh! Muwahahaha!... err... anyway.
