I just… can’t stop associating that song with Gaster and Asgore… And every time I listen to it, my heart breaks into pieces…
I imagine their last goodbye and Gaster’s painfully slow disappearing in Asgore’s hands…

W.D.Gaster was the Royal Scientist before Alphys. His existence's hinted by Gray NPCs, who appear randomly in the game (you can find them or not; that's a bit hard to explain). We can learn from them that Gaster's life was cut short after he fell into one of his creations... Aaaand he shattered across time and space.
Though, fandom Undertale created their own stories from these hints xD... One of them is THAT relationship...
