This is Towan. Towan lived at the woodland park zoo in seattle. He passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2016. He was one of the first orangutans I could recognize by way of nothing more than a photo. He also served as one of the inspirations for Maurice on the recent planet of the apes movies. I never met him in person, but through Karin Konoval and watching Woodland Park Zoo here on facebook, i felt like i had met him. He was one of the first orangutans, along with Tengku and Melati here in Fort Wayne, who inspired me to care about orangutans as much as i do. You will be missed big guy, so many loved you so much.
