The image that struck me the most in the opportunity I had to visit soul was this one at the Korea War Memorial. A statue, of two brothers, one in the Republic of Korea Army, the other a part of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Army. Perhaps it strikes me because of my chosen profession.
I also get hit with a huge amount of feels in the story told by this, by the longing for the two nations, after years of water, hundreds of thousands perishing, and decades of uneasy stand-off, for the two brother nations to be re-united.
I do hope one day the brothers can be re-united, but I fear that the way things are going, there will be incalculable amounts of human suffering, both by the North and the South, before it happens.

Thanks man, I appreciate the thoughtful comment and understanding behind the meaning of this. I agree that it is tragic that we are seeing the last of a generation that paid a terrible price for the ideas of a powerful few. I do hope I have the opportunity while here to meet some of the Korean veterans of that conflict, and to learn some of their acquired wisdom and perspective from the experiences they had, but I fear that it will be difficult to find the veterans here as well.

Very few soldiers outwardly express feelings like this. Many more cast their thoughts aside and avoid these images of the past. Although this year I get to spend time in a country with such intensity, it constantly feels like you'll be an outcast for feeling such sorrow tied with the war.
I attended the Landing ceremony, listened to the political figures, department secretaries, veteran Commanders, Marines and Soldiers that shared their words for the crowd. Veterans donning their red hats took their time to pass on what they saw and learned from so long ago.
Videos of the ceremony this year should be up on NAVER, Mag. Aviation and Marines stole the show!
Stay safe, Sir.
