The city surrounding Latigm is split into 5 districts, each under the control of a group/company/person that has been voted in by the populace of that district. These groups then control all laws, infrastructure, work, etc in their respective district until they resign power or are voted/forced out of power by the populace.
One such group is Taldiss Security, a company known for its advancements in technology and military designs. Due to the limited size that they have to control, actual police forces are limited to 3 groups:
-Ground Control; standard forces, they have the power to arrest individuals or shoot/kill if deemed necessary. They adopt the tasks of simple policing roles, dealing with crimes, issues, and criminals on a low level, although can be called upon to assist the other groups when needed.
-Pilot; drivers/pilots, reconnaissance and information, and engineering. They are combat trained like Ground Control and DRC but are rarely required to use those skills, instead advising when needed and pilot vehicles to deliver the other groups into potential combat zones. Their helmet is designed to plug into the interface of any Taldiss designed vehicle. Doing so allows them a VR representation of the exterior of the vehicle (removing the need for cockpits/windows), as well as accessing information from the Taldiss databases.
-Drop Response Corp (DRC); Special forces, they are called into situations where Ground Control would be out of their depth. They wear HImET devices(High Impact Energy Transfer) which allow them to fall large distances without parachutes or any sort of slowing mechanism. Rather the hydraulic rods on the boots transfer the energy of the user at the time of impact in the surface they land on, effectively removing the force of impact. They also wear "flashbangs", jetpack style backpacks which allow for stability when falling, but which also have 4 rods protruding which can discharge a blinding light, deafening noise (hence the nickname flashbang, which their creation superseeded), and/or EMP pulse as needed. Their helmets can counter the effect of the flashbang (except the EMP, in which the visor turns from opaque to transparent to allow the user to still see), as well as interface with Taldiss data centers, allowing such things as realtime 3D mapping of structures, aim assistance for compatible weapons, and various other pieces of information.
Taldiss also manufactures and maintains "Guardsmen", 8 foot tall robots that are left at various ports around the Taldiss section of the city. They are inanimate but can be called upon by any member of Taldiss Security if needed, usually being untilised by Ground Control in the apprehension of criminals. They are also equipped with machine guns at the base of their claws and are given free reign to shoot if deemed necessary (like Ground Control).
Other sections of Taldiss exist, although they span none militaristic sections, such as ones designed to help the public on a person level/deal with inquiries. An R&D department exists, although information on what they work on is kept a secret, with few things being known/speculated, such as it involving bio-engineering and bio-weapons, or advanced AI that could be used to gain a power foothold over other districts of the city if needed (or the elusive council which resides within the base of Latigm, who have the ultimate say over the other districts, essentially keeping the peace and preventing war).
