a few eggs got laid under the last set of hens late, luckily another broody hen came along to hatch them (5 of my 7 silkies went broody within days of eachother!)

They are very much my pets :)
I love silkies the most and this year's goal with breeding is to get new colors for my flock by crossing what "official" colors exist as you can only readily obtain them in their breed-standard colors (none of what I am breeding would be considered show quality color) and so far I have had much success with the new shades :D
I will be keeping most of the chicks, after raising them to a strong 3 weeks of age I will find pet-homes for the repeat colors I don't plan to add to my flock. I have found rehoming my silkie chicks to be very easy and this year it seems a lot of the usual feed stores that carry chicks are not getting in silkies this year so it should be even easier to find homes.
I do eat eggs from my hens and have 3 Easter egger/Americana for my primary egg intake as their eggs are larger and as a bonus are a pretty teal color. Home grown eggs actually do taste better than store bought and I can assure my eggs are cruelty free. atm I am not eating any silkie eggs, not until after the summer when outdoor temps make chick housing less than ideal.
