While herping out in the Santa Cruz Mountains, me and
happen to stumble across a whole bunch of these beautiful beasts of the mountains. Now I know what most of you are thinking, which would probably be something like "NOPE NOPE NOPE, HELL TO THE MOTHER FUCKING NOPE", but, these guys are actually more scared of you, then you are of it. The only real times I see them are when they are hunting for food. These types of tarantulas build tunnel systems that they live in, either under a log, or rock, anywhere with coverage. However, this guy decided to pose for me before scurrying off under a tarp, where I found a few alligator lizards. Still uncertain if they're non-venomous. If they aren't venomous, i'm holding one.

This is one of the Tube trapdoor spiders from the Family Nemesiidae, in the Genus Calisoga. They are often mistaken for tarantulas, due to their physical similarities.
They are venomous, as most every spider is, but their bites are not medically significant (a bee sting would likely be worse).
Lovely lovely :D
