The morning sun shone brightly on the wooden cabin at the entrance of the National Park. The sounds of nature were calm and gave the feeling of another world from the city. A car drove down the lone road leading to the entrance and pulled into the small dirt parking lot next to it. The engine turned off before the driver side door opened and a brown furred foot stepped out. The beige haired vixen took a deep breath before stretching her arms up.
“Whoo! It was a long drive. But I’m finally here.” she said as she reached back into her car to retrieve her backpack. She turned to the cabin and began to walk toward it.
The small bell dinged at the opening of the door as the vulpine stepped into the building and looked around. “Welcome. The park is only open until 6pm today. This is the visitors center, any information you need please let me know.” said the female bear sitting behind a desk.
“My name is Nina Lincoln. I’m here reporting for my first day of work.” said the vixen with a smile.
“Well well Welcome aboard Miss Lincoln. It’s nice to see a fresh face here in the park. My name is Cindy.” said the black bear female politely as she held her hand out. Nina shook her hand quickly and took a look around the small cabin. “I know it’s kinda small, but don’t worry. You won’t be spending a lot of time inside. This is the visitor’s center and main office for this sector of the park. As a park ranger you’ll be patrolling sections of the park. Keeping an eye on the wildlife, plant life, and the visitors that come here to see them and to relax.” said Cindy. Nina’s smile grew wider at the prospect. “Speaking of, I know you just got here but it’s time to go on the morning route. You should take the jeep out back and drive around the park. Get to know the lay of the land and familiarize yourself with the area. You might see a couple of the other rangers as you go. Your section is the east section this week. We rotate to keep things from getting too monotonous.” explained Cindy next.
“Alright. Do you have a map I could borrow?” asked Nina.
“The jeeps have navigation systems built in. So you won’t get lost.” replied Cindy looking through her desk for the keys.
“Thank you. I’ll be on my way then.” said Nina as she took the keys in her hands before turning to leave.
The jeep drove down the dirt road coursing through the park at a leisure pace. Nina looked here and there and did her best to remember land marks as she went. The hood of her green hoodie flowed behind her short hair in the wind. The fennec mix came across a stream and pulled the vehicle over. She pulled her canteen out of her backpack and approached the gently flowing water. She kneeled down and dipped the lip of the canteen into the cool water. She smiled to herself as she listened to the water flowing into the metal container. When it was full she put the cap back on the canteen and looked up at the sky.
“Well little sis…I made it. I’m a park ranger like I always wanted to be. In a way you were always an inspiration to me. I’m just sorry you couldn’t realize your dream. I hope you’re looking down on me with a smile.” she said as she turned to go back to the jeep.
Finally finally finally...here is Nina's introduction to the world my characters live in. I know her ref has been posted in my scraps for a long time now, but I am happy to finally officially introduce her. She works as a park ranger at the Wolfwood National Park. She loves the outdoors and has an affinity for nature.
